What Is Gallbladder & Bile Duct Cancer?

Gallbladder and bile duct cancers develop in the organs that store and transport bile, which helps digest fats. These cancers occur when cells in these areas grow uncontrollably.

What Causes It?

These cancers develop from changes in cell DNA. Risk factors may include:

  • Age

  • Obesity

  • Diabetes

  • Chronic inflammation of the liver or bile ducts

  • Family history or genetic factors

  • Exposure to certain chemicals

How Is It Diagnosed?

Diagnosis may include:

  • Imaging (CT, PET, MRI, ultrasound)

  • Blood tests

  • Biopsy to confirm cancer

These tests help determine the type and stage of the disease.

Signs and Symptoms

Symptoms may include:

  • Abdominal pain or pressure

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Unexplained weight loss

  • Fever

  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

  • A feeling of a mass
